Arizona sports betting generates billions in revenue five years after legalization

Five years after legal sports betting launched in September 2021, Arizona's gambling market has produced massive financial flows. The state has recorded more than $34 billion in total wagering and about $9 billion in handle in the most recent year, according to Arizona Department of Gaming spokesperson Suzanne Trainor: “We had about $9 billion in handle last year alone.”

Fantasy‑sports entry fees have totaled $486 million, while the state has collected over $185 million in gaming fees. Combined with the Arizona Lottery’s yearly contribution of over $1 billion, gambling now funds significant public programs. Tribal gaming revenue channeled to the Arizona Benefits Fund rose from $97 million in fiscal 2021 to $163 million in fiscal 2026, supporting problem‑gambling services and wildlife conservation. Casinos report no closures and are expanding, with a new casino slated to open in November.

Promotional offers continue to attract new bettors, with several Arizona sportsbooks advertising more than $5 000 in welcome bonuses. The industry’s growth underscores the sustained demand for gambling across the state.
