Arjan Asimi prosecuted for assaulting journalists in Maliq
Arjan Asimi, an organizer of protests against territorial reform in Maliq, has been criminally prosecuted following a confrontation with journalists. According to police reports, Asimi is accused of threatening and insulting several journalists while they were performing their duties during a protest in front of the Maliq Municipality.
The Maliq Police Station referred the case to the Korça Prosecutor's Office for criminal proceedings regarding the offenses of “Assault due to duty” and “Insult.” The incident involved several media professionals who were reportedly targeted with verbal abuse and accusations that the media was “sold” and serving the government.
The Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH) issued a statement condemning the incident, describing the violence and obstruction of reporting as “unacceptable.” The association emphasized that while the right to protest is a democratic necessity, it does not justify aggression or intimidation against members of the press. AGSH has called on authorities to document the event thoroughly and take legal measures against those responsible.
