Arkansas and Colorado Police End Flock License Plate Reader Contracts

The Pea Ridge Police Department in Arkansas announced it will cease using the Flock automated license‑plate reader (ALPR) system. Police Chief Lynn Hahn said the decision does not reflect a lack of confidence in the technology, which helped recover stolen vehicles, locate suspects and assist investigations, but aims to preserve community trust and reduce administrative costs.

The Aspen Police Department in Colorado also confirmed it is terminating its two‑year contract with Flock Safety. Chief Kim Ferber cited resident concerns over privacy and the need for transparency, stating that while the technology can generate leads, maintaining public confidence is the priority. The contract was approved in a 2025 budget, but implementation was halted and the department is reviewing how the allocated $20,000 will be spent.

Both agencies highlighted the balance between investigative tools and community trust as they withdraw from the ALPR program.
