Arkansas and Oklahoma anglers warned of heat risks on lakes

The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission cautions lake users that extreme summer heat can cause dehydration, sunburn, and alcohol‑related incidents. It advises anglers and boaters to fish early in the morning or late afternoon, stay in shaded areas, use sun protection, keep navigation lights functional, and avoid prolonged exposure to hot boat surfaces.

In Oklahoma, experienced anglers note that bass retreat to cooler water layers during 110°F conditions, often staying just above the thermocline where temperature and oxygen are optimal. They recommend slower presentations, using larger baits near cover, and targeting the shallow zone rather than deep water, as fish become sluggish in the heat.
