Arkansas Attorney General sues Roblox and Discord over child safety failures

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin filed a lawsuit on June 22, 2026 against Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc., alleging the companies knowingly exposed children to online predators and misled parents about platform safety. The complaint describes a “two‑stage predatory pipeline” in which predators first contact minors on Roblox’s gaming platform and then move conversations to Discord, where monitoring is weaker.

Roblox reports about 144 million daily active users, roughly 40 % under 13 years old, and internal data show a rise in suspected child‑exploitation reports from 675 in 2019 to more than 13,000 in 2023. Discord hosts about 200 million monthly users, with default settings that allow adult contacts to send unfiltered content to minors. The suit invokes Arkansas consumer‑protection, public‑nuisance and unjust‑enrichment statutes, seeking damages, an injunction, restitution of profits, and court orders for stronger age verification, messaging restrictions, and monitoring tools.

Both companies say they have invested in AI‑driven moderation and safety policies, but the state argues those measures are insufficient and that profit motives have taken precedence over child protection.
