Arkansas launches wildfire dashboard amid rising state-wide fire risk
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture has launched a new active wildfire dashboard to provide real-time information on ongoing wildfires, including current totals, affected acreage, and specific locations. This tool aims to offer the public a clearer view of wildfire activity as the state manages more than 15 million acres of non-federal forestland.
Wildfire risk is increasing across the state due to soaring temperatures and a lack of rainfall. All 75 Arkansas counties have been designated at moderate wildfire risk, with 30 counties currently under burn bans. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly the entire state is experiencing abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions, with some areas in Northeast and Southeast Arkansas facing extreme or exceptional drought.
The Department is preparing for increased activity with 175 wildland firefighters, 110 bulldozers, and an aviation response fleet. Officials urge residents to report wildfires immediately, avoid flying drones near active fires, and check local burn bans before conducting any outdoor burning.
