Arkansas Razorbacks prepare for season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff

The No. 12 Arkansas Razorbacks are preparing for their season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday in Fayetteville. Head coach John Calipari leads a rebuilt roster featuring the nation’s top recruiting class, including freshman guard Jordan Smith Jr., who was projected by some outlets as a top pick for the 2027 NBA Draft.

Despite winning both preseason exhibition games against No. 15 Gonzaga and Memphis, Calipari has noted areas for improvement. The team struggled with free throw shooting, converting only 56.1 percent during the exhibitions. Calipari emphasized that improving accuracy from the charity stripe will be critical for success in close games during SEC play.

Other areas of focus include rebounding consistency and managing a young roster. The Razorbacks enter the season following a 28-9 campaign that included a Sweet 16 appearance.
