Arkansas Razorbacks win season opener despite offensive struggles
The Arkansas Razorbacks opened their 2026 season with a 31-14 victory over North Alabama, but the win was overshadowed by a highly criticized offensive performance in the first half. Despite holding a 14-0 lead at halftime, the team struggled with self-inflicted errors, including six penalties that resulted in 55 lost yards and two turnovers.
Head coach Ryan Silverfield, in his first season with the program, expressed significant frustration with the team's execution. He described the first half as “one of the worst I’ve ever been associated with,” noting that the performance was not clean and was characterized by “self-inflicted wounds.” Silverfield took responsibility for the issues, stating, “That’s on me. I’ll get it fixed.”
While the offense struggled, the Razorbacks' defense provided a strong showing. The unit limited North Alabama to just 40 rushing yards on 20 attempts, marking the lowest rushing yards allowed by an Arkansas defense since 2014. The team now faces a difficult upcoming schedule with matchups against Utah and Georgia.
