Arkansas rice industry donates 201,500 pounds of rice to food banks
The Arkansas rice industry has donated 201,500 pounds of rice to the Arkansas Foodbank to mark National Rice Month and Hunger Action Month. The contribution, provided by six rice mills, is expected to yield more than 2 million servings of rice to assist families, children, and seniors throughout the state.
Participating mills include Isbell Farms, Producers Rice Mill, Ralston Family Farms, Riceland Foods Inc., Western Foods, and Windmill Rice Co. The donation will be distributed through the six Feeding America food banks located in Arkansas to stock local food pantries.
Industry representatives noted that while Arkansas rice farmers have faced difficult years, the commitment to supporting neighbors remains a priority. Arkansas is the largest rice-producing state in the U.S., contributing over $6 billion annually to the state economy.
