Arkansas State Police report violent struggle during traffic stop

A traffic stop on Interstate 55 in Mississippi County, Arkansas, escalated into a violent struggle between an Arkansas State Police trooper and a driver identified as Pedro Gonzalez. The incident occurred on August 27 after Trooper Daniel Young initiated a stop on a Chevrolet Equinox.

According to incident reports, the encounter intensified after Gonzalez presented a Mexican passport and an expired insurance card. Upon contacting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the trooper received a detainer for Gonzalez, who had reportedly overstayed his visa. During the subsequent attempt to take Gonzalez into custody, a struggle ensued in which the driver allegedly attempted to grab the trooper’s firearm.

Following the confrontation, three individuals—identified as Gonzalez, Bersaino Gonzalez Gonzalez, and Hermelinda Perez Hernandez—fled into a wooded area. Authorities conducted a five-hour search before apprehending the group.
