Arkas Art Center hosts Lumina exhibition in Izmir
The Lumina: Color and Light Art exhibition has opened in Izmir, featuring works by 83 artists brought from France. This event marks the beginning of a five-year collaboration between Arkas Art Center and the Centre Pompidou.
The partnership will consist of five thematic seasons, with a total of 10 exhibitions planned to facilitate cultural exchange and knowledge sharing between the two institutions. The collection explores themes of natural light, energy waves, and the evolution of color in art.
Key movements represented include Color Field painting, which focuses on large areas of saturated color, and Op Art, which utilizes optical illusions to engage the viewer. Notable works featured in the exhibition include Joan Mitchell’s ‘La Grande Vallée’ and Gerhard Richter’s 1973 piece ‘1024 Farben (350-3)’ much of which explores the interplay between light and perception.
