Arkema inaugurates €150 million purification unit in France
Arkema has inaugurated a new acrylic acid purification unit at its Carling-Saint-Avold chemical platform in France. The project, known as Carat (Carling Acide Technique), represents an investment of approximately €150 million, making it one of the company’s largest industrial projects in the country.
The new unit utilizes a modernized manufacturing process designed to improve energy efficiency by 25% and reduce the site’s carbon footprint by 20%. Additionally, the technology aims to optimize resource and waste management while significantly reducing solvent consumption. The facility produces acrylic acid, a key component in products such as paints, coatings, adhesives, water treatment solutions, and superabsorbent polymers.
The project was supported by the French State through the France 2030 program, with funding from the European Union via NextGenerationEU. The inauguration was attended by Arkema CEO Thierry Le Hénaff and European Commission executive vice-president Stéphane Séjourné.
