Arkipelag selected as Sweden’s Oscar submission

The film ‘Arkipelag’, marking the directorial debut of author Alex Schulman, has been selected as Sweden’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars.

Based loosely on Schulman’s own experiences as a parent on a school trip, the drama follows three fathers—played by Gustaf Skarsgård, Fares Fares, and Linus Wahlgren—who accompany their daughters on a school trip that spirals out of control. The film is described as a dark, fast-paced story exploring parental control and teenage trauma.

‘Arkipelag’ is scheduled for a theatrical release in Sweden on October 9. While the film must undergo an international marketing process to reach the official Academy shortlist, critics have noted its uncomfortable and engaging qualities.
