Arkás uses satire to comment on summer heat and holiday debt

Greek cartoonist Arkás has released new satirical sketches commenting on the end of the summer season.

In one piece, inspired by Salvador Dalí’s ‘The Persistence of Memory,’ the artist uses a melting clock to satirize the intense heatwaves occurring at the end of August. The sketch suggests that the summer is making a final, hot impression before departing.

In another work, Arkás addresses the economic consequences of summer holidays. Using imagery of credit cards, the cartoon highlights the contrast between the short duration of summer tanning and the long-term financial burden of installment payments required to fund vacations and consumer spending.
