Arla to decommission Falbygdens Ost facility in Falköping
The dairy cooperative Arla has announced the decommissioning of Falbygdens Ost in Falköping, Sweden. The decision will result in the loss of approximately 60 jobs.
Arla stated that the facility does not have its own cheese production and does not utilize milk from Arla farmers. Instead, the site focuses on the import, storage, processing, and packaging of specialty and dessert cheeses from various parts of the world. Due to declining demand for these products and ongoing profitability challenges, the import and packaging operations on Göteborgsvägen will be phased out by February 2027.
Arla intends to redirect its resources toward Swedish dairy production to strengthen national food security. While the import operations are being closed, the company will maintain the 'Osthuset' on Energigatan, where approximately ten employees will continue to store and wax hard cheeses produced in Sweden.
