Arla to invest 35 million SEK in fossil-free Östersund dairy

Arla is investing approximately 35 million SEK into its dairy facility in Östersund, Sweden, to transition the plant to 100 percent fossil-free operations. The investment involves the installation of two new electric boilers to replace existing heating systems, including an oil boiler used for backup.

According to Hervé Currat, the dairy manager at Arla Östersund, the new modern electric boilers will provide a more robust energy supply and ensure stable production for the long term. The new equipment is expected to be operational by the beginning of 2028.

This move follows other recent investments by the cooperative, including 310 million SEK for the Falkenberg dairy to increase capacity and modernize the facility. However, the company is also undergoing organizational changes, including the discontinuation of Falbygdens cheese and the termination of agreements with 29 organic farms.
