Tjörn shipping accident: Investigators analyze Misje Verde black box data
The Swedish Accident Investigation Authority has retrieved data from the voyage recorder of the Norwegian-flagged cargo ship Misje Verde to assist in the investigation of a fatal collision off Tjörn. The incident, which occurred on July 28, involved the 90-meter vessel striking a small motorboat carrying two adults and two children. The collision resulted in the deaths of a woman and a girl, while a man and a boy were seriously injured.
Investigators have obtained navigation data, bridge audio recordings, radar data, and technical system settings. Investigator Björn Ramstedt stated there are “good hopes” that the analysis will explain the causes of the accident. The vessel's commander and a pilot on board have been detained on suspicion of causing death through negligence and traffic violations. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the ship failed to maintain proper lookout or was traveling at an excessive speed.
