Arlington City Council approves $876 million budget and tax rate
The Arlington City Council has issued its final approval for an $876 million budget and the upcoming tax rate. The city expects to conclude the period with a surplus of approximately $3 million.
While the tax rate remains unchanged from the previous year, the impact on residents will vary. Due to an appraisal freeze and property valuation protests managed by the Tarrant Appraisal District, the taxable value of homes in the city dropped by 1.23%. This resulted in a roughly $5 billion decrease in property values, meaning the average homeowner may see a decrease in their property tax bill.
However, residents will face higher costs for other municipal services. Water and sewer rates are projected to increase by 20 to 40 cents per month, raising the average monthly bill from $80 to $85. Additionally, garbage pickup fees will increase following a request from Republic Services to match rising operational costs.
