Arlo announces Essential Solar security camera

Arlo has announced the Essential Solar Security Camera, a $100 outdoor device featuring an integrated 1.2-watt solar panel. The company claims the camera can operate year-round with as little as two hours of daily sunlight.

Hardware specifications include 2K video resolution at 24 fps, a 130-degree field of view, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The device is IP65-rated for dust and water resistance and includes an LED spotlight, two-way audio, and an alarm siren. It is powered by a 14,790 mAh internal battery, which Arlo states can last up to six months without solar assistance.

While the camera offers basic video recording and seven days of free cloud storage, advanced features such as person and package detection, as well as specialized AI alerts for glass breaking or gunshots, require a subscription to the Arlo Secure plan starting at $10 per month. The device lacks built-in local storage, though users can access local storage options by connecting it to an Arlo SmartHub.
