Arm unveils AI-native Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU for mobile gaming

Arm has unveiled its new CSS for Mobile 2 compute platform, featuring the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU and C2 CPU cluster. This architecture introduces dedicated neural accelerators directly into the graphics pipeline to enable “neural graphics” on mobile devices. These technologies include Neural Super Sampling (NSS) for resolution reconstruction, Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU) for frame generation, and Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD) for ray-traced scenes.

By integrating AI-native capabilities, Arm claims the new GPU can deliver up to four times higher performance efficiency for neural graphics while maintaining low power consumption, targeting a budget of approximately 1-2W. The hardware is designed to support advanced features like Unreal Engine 5’s MegaLights and third-generation ray tracing. The C2 CPU cores also offer improvements, including a 15% boost in single-thread performance and integrated local AI acceleration.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold, utilizing the Xring O3 chip, is the first device to implement this new hardware. While high-end flagship models will lead the rollout, Arm intends to expand these technologies to premium and mid-range devices, as well as tablets and Chromebooks, in the coming years.
