Armand Duplantis notes rising competition in pole vault

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has noted a shift in the competitive landscape of his discipline, describing the current season as having an unprecedented level of quality and drama. While Duplantis continues to hold the world record at 6.31 meters, his dominance is being challenged by rising competitors.

During a Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis achieved a height of 6.16 meters, a mark that Duplantis noted would previously not have been enough to secure a victory. Duplantis expressed that this increased parity creates a more exciting atmosphere for fans.

In addition to Karalis, Duplantis identified Norwegian athlete Sondre Guttormsen as a significant emerging threat, praising his rapid development and noting that Guttormsen is capable of clearing 6.10 meters. This suggests the current rivalry may evolve from a duel with Karalis into a three-way competition for the pole vault crown.
