Armando Benedetti case transferred to Prosecutor's Office

The Special Instruction Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice has declined jurisdiction to investigate former Interior Minister Armando Benedetti regarding alleged pressure and mediation for appointments within the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN).

The Court determined it lacks the constitutional authority to judge the attributed actions because they allegedly occurred after July 19, 2022, the date Benedetti’s term as a senator ended. Consequently, the entire case file has been transferred to the Attorney General's Office to determine if there are sufficient criminal merits to initiate a formal investigation.

The case stems from complaints made by former DIAN director Luis Carlos Reyes, who identified a list of over 30 political leaders, congressmen, and former officials who allegedly sought to influence hiring, relocation, or promotions within the agency. Benedetti's name was included in the list of individuals linked to these alleged activities. If the Attorney General's Office decides to file formal charges, the process will return to the Supreme Court for resolution.
