Armando Cavalieri re-elected to lead Argentine commerce union
Armando Cavalieri has been re-elected to lead the Sindicato de Empleados de Comercio de la Capital Federal (SEC) alongside Carlos Pérez. Following the victory of the Lista Azul, the 89-year-old leader will begin his eleventh term at the helm of the organization.
More than 16,200 members participated in the election. Cavalieri’s victory also ensures his continued leadership of the Federación Argentina de Empleados de Comercio y Servicios (FAECYS), one of Argentina’s most influential labor organizations.
The electoral process followed a judicial ruling by the Sala VIII of the Cámara Nacional de Apelaciones del Trabajo, which disqualified the opposing Lista Celeste-Verde after handwriting experts identified irregularities in 1,238 signatures.
In his remarks following the vote, Cavalieri described the high turnout as a demonstration of the union’s unity and consolidation. He stated that the organization remains committed to defending workers' wages and rights amidst the current national economic and labor challenges.
