Armando González joins Olympiacos in $12M transfer from Chivas
Mexican forward Armando ‘La Hormiga’ González has completed a transfer from Chivas Guadalajara to the Greek club Olympiacos. The deal is valued at approximately 12 million dollars, with Chivas retaining a 20 percent stake in the player's rights for any future sales.
González, 23, signed a five-season contract with the Athens-based club. The move marks a significant step for the striker, who was the top scorer in the Apertura 2025 tournament. He is noted as the first Mexican player to move to Europe following the 2026 World Cup.
Upon arriving in Greece for medical examinations, González expressed that his motivation for the move is professional growth and the opportunity to compete in major European tournaments like the Champions League, rather than financial gain. The transfer also sets a new record for Chivas as their most expensive sale to a European club, surpassing the previous record held by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández.
