Armas sells Algeciras-Ceuta ferry route subsidiary
Caflaja, a shipping company within the Armas Trasmediterránea group, has announced the sale of its business operating the Algeciras-Ceuta route to an unidentified buyer. As part of the transaction, the service will be rebranded as Ceuta Link starting October 30.
The sale includes the ferry 'Villa de Agaete' and guarantees the maintenance of all jobs related to the line. This divestment follows requirements set by Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) regarding the sale of Armas Trasmediterránea assets to DFDS. The regulator mandated the transfer of these specific maritime elements to a third party to ensure sufficient competitive pressure in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The rebranding to Ceuta Link was also necessitated by Baleària's acquisition of the Armas brand, preventing Caflaja from continuing to use the previous branding during this transition period.
