Armed attack in Chongón, Ecuador kills two and wounds five

Two men were killed and five others injured during an armed assault on June 8 at a beach‑volleyball match in the town of Chongón, Ecuador. The attack occurred around 20:00 at the kilometre‑24 point on the coastal road, when several individuals on motorcycles opened fire on spectators. The deceased were identified as Tiburcio Leonel Intriago Mendoza and Luis Fernando Zambrano Posligua; the injured were taken to local health centres.

Police cordoned the area and began an investigation to determine the perpetrators and motive. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the case develops.
