Armed attack on vehicle in La Joya, Daule leaves one dead and one injured

On the afternoon of 20 June, gunmen opened fire on a black SUV travelling through the La Joya residential area in the canton of Daule, Ecuador. The assailants arrived in a dark car and a motorcycle, pursued the vehicle and fired multiple shots, puncturing the windows and bodywork. The attack killed one passenger, who had prior convictions for illicit association and drug trafficking, and injured a second passenger, who had a kidnapping record. Police continue investigations to identify the attackers and determine their motive.

The incident occurred near the Mariposas roundabout, close to a community police post and a fire station. The victims attempted to flee the gunfire before the vehicle was disabled.
