Armed attacks kill three in Guatemala and three in Ecuador
Guatemala experienced three separate shootings in the capital area on the same day, leaving three men dead and one wounded. The incidents occurred in Villa Nueva’s Zone 1, Zone 18 and Zone 7, with victims identified as Ángel Adolfo Gil (23), an unnamed male in Zone 18 and Josué Estuardo Zicajá (35). Local police and the Public Ministry opened investigations, but motives remain unclear.
In Ecuador, a triple homicide took place in the Los Esteros district of southern Guayaquil. Police responded to a white pickup that contained three dead bodies and a seriously injured woman after a gunfight on the night of July 4, 2026. The victims were found between Cayetano Tarruel and Juan Montalván Cornejo streets. Authorities from the District 8 and the National Directorate of Crimes against Life are conducting forensic examinations.
Both incidents highlight a surge in violent crime in urban areas of Central and South America, prompting heightened police activity and community concern.
