Armed clashes in Briceño, Antioquia force displacement of 78 people

Armed confrontations erupted in the municipality of Briceño, Antioquia, between the Clan del Golfo (Ejército Gaitanista de Colombia) and the 5th and 36th fronts of the FARC dissident groups. The fighting, reported to involve drones that drop explosive devices, has left three people dead and caused extensive damage to rural homes.

The Defensoría del Pueblo confirmed that 34 families, representing 78 individuals, have fled the veredas El Roblal and Travesías to seek shelter in the municipal seat. The municipality has activated contingency plans and humanitarian assistance for the displaced, while an early‑warning alert (019‑2025) remains in force due to the risk of further violence and possible confinement of other rural communities. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles and the strategic importance of Briceño for drug‑ and arms‑trafficking routes have heightened the security concerns.
