Armed group blockade suspends school services in Oaxaca

Educational services have been suspended in the community of San Isidro Platanillo, located in the Santo Domingo Petapa municipality within the Istmo de Tehuantepec region of Oaxaca, due to the presence of armed groups.

For approximately one week, unidentified hooded individuals armed with firearms have maintained a blockade at the El Piaño crossing, which serves as a key access point to the community. In response to the security threat, the teaching staff at the San Isidro Platanillo Telesecundaria school notified school supervisor Rosalino Cabrera Figueroa that classes would remain suspended to protect the physical integrity of both students and staff.

The suspension of educational services extends beyond the Telesecundaria school to include early childhood, preschool, and primary schools, as well as the local campus of the Instituto de Estudios de Bachillerato del Estado de Oaxaca (IEBO). Educators stated that services will only resume once the necessary security conditions are met to allow safe passage into the community.
