Armed Home Invasions Leave Victims Hostage in Santo André and Blumenau
In Santo André, São Paulo, a 67‑year‑old retired man, José Isídio da Silva, and his 19‑year‑old grandson, Johnnatan Ryan Andrade Santos, were held hostage for about 90 minutes after armed thieves entered their home on Estrada João Ducim. The assailants searched for cash and valuables, taking notebooks, televisions, cell phones, roughly R$1,400 and other items before fleeing. Silva reported that the burglars threatened him with a revolver and demanded money they believed was stored at the residence.
In Blumenau, Santa Catarina, a 61‑year‑old woman was locked in her bathroom while masked, armed men robbed her house in less than ten minutes, stealing jewelry, electronics and bottles of wine. Police recovered some of the items from nearby forest litter and continue to investigate both incidents, with no arrests made yet.
