Armed robbery incidents reported in Paraguay border regions

Authorities in Paraguay are investigating two separate violent robberies involving armed, hooded suspects in the Alto Paraná department.

In Saltos del Guairá, a group of criminals entered a residence where children were present, stealing jewelry, a mobile phone, and cash. Police conducted raids following the incident, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: Damián Rolón Estigarribia, Gill Damían Rolón Saravia, and Cristian Riquelme. Investigators are looking into whether the group targeted the home under the false assumption that the occupants were storing tirzepatide-based medications. The suspects are also linked to a prior attempted robbery at a local Shell service station.

In a separate incident in the María Auxiliadora neighborhood of Ciudad del Este, five armed individuals intercepted a family. CCTV footage shows the suspects acting violently, including physically assaulting a woman as she attempted to leave for school with her daughters. While the criminals reportedly sought USD 60,000, they instead fled with gold jewelry, documents, and a 2023 Toyota Fortuner. The stolen vehicle was later recovered by the National Police near the Acaray side, kilometer 10.
