ARMEDANGELS windbreaker named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026

The Cologne-based fashion brand ARMEDANGELS has announced that its windbreaker made from 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell has been named one of TIME’s ‘Best Inventions of 2026’ in the outerwear category.

Developed in collaboration with the Lenzing Group, textile consultancy Montebelo, and Hermin Textile, the garment is the first windbreaker to feature a ripstop outer fabric woven entirely from TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers. Unlike traditional performance outerwear that relies on synthetic materials like polyester or polyamide, this jacket utilizes cellulose fibers derived from wood. The fabric provides wind protection, breathability, and light water repellency.

The innovation centers on the fiber production process by Lenzing AG, which uses a closed-loop system from certified wood sources. According to Lenzing, this process requires at least 50% less water and produces at least 50% less CO2e emissions compared to conventional lyocell. The ultra-fine, high-strength yarns used in the fabric are spun in Taiwan.
