Armenia Constitutional Court rejects opposition challenge to government program

The Constitutional Court of Armenia has rejected an application filed by the ‘Strong Armenia’ and ‘Armenia’ factions regarding the constitutionality of the National Assembly’s decision to approve the government program.

The opposition challenged the decision on two main grounds: first, alleging a violation of the prescribed legal procedure during the assembly’s first session, and second, contesting specific provisions within the ‘Spiritual Security’ section of the government program. The applicants argued that these provisions aimed to regulate the internal governance of the Armenian Apostolic Church, which they claimed violated the rights of the Church and the freedom of conscience and religion.

The court’s decision concludes the legal challenge regarding the procedural timing and the content of the government’s policy framework as presented by the opposition.
