Armenia Environment Delegation Meets UNEP on Biodiversity and COP17

On August 6, a delegation headed by Acting Environment Minister Aram Meymaryan met with Suzan Gardeni, Director of the UNEP Ecosystems Division. The talks, part of the 7th session of the subsidiary body for the Convention on Biological Diversity (SBI‑7), focused on preparing for the upcoming COP17, reviewing existing technical assistance, and exploring further support for youth involvement and events such as “Mountains and Freshwater Day”.

Discussions also covered the implementation of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, development of Armenia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, preparation of national reports, potential synergies with the Global Environment Facility, and cooperation with the Calouste Gulbenkian and Kunming Biodiversity Foundations. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to shape concrete mechanisms and joint initiatives aligned with Armenia’s priorities during its COP17 presidency.
