Armenia introduces new biometric ID cards and passports
Armenia is introducing new biometric identification documents with updated pricing and enhanced security features. The cost for a new biometric ID card will be 5,950 AMD, while a biometric passport will cost 28,650 AMD.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that these prices reflect the technical capabilities, security standards, and improved services provided by the new system, rather than just being a comparison to previous state fees. The new documents are designed to meet high European certification standards to ensure accurate identification and better protection of personal data.
Unlike previous versions, which faced international interoperability issues and lower security levels, the new system aims to facilitate digital public services and reduce the need for data sharing between different state agencies. The specific prices were determined based on a competitive tender process involving a private company.
