Robert Kocharyan's detention extended by two months
The Anti-Corruption Court has extended the detention of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, for an additional two months. The decision follows a judicial session that lasted approximately 12 hours, concluding in the early morning.
Kocharyan and nine others are facing criminal charges including abuse of official authority, large-scale bribery, and large-scale money laundering. The investigation into these matters began in August 2026. During the proceedings, defense attorney Aram Orbelyan argued against the necessity of continued detention, noting that the defense had submitted extensive materials regarding the investigation's conduct over the past two months.
Kocharyan's health has been a point of concern during the legal process; he was previously hospitalized due to deteriorating well-being following an appearance before the Anti-Corruption Committee in August.
