Armenia sees record tourism growth in first half of 2026

Armenia has experienced a record-breaking surge in tourism, welcoming over 1.042 million visitors during the first half of 2026. This represents a 14.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Tourism now accounts for approximately 5.3% of the nation's GDP.

To support this growth, the country is investing heavily in infrastructure. This includes a $500 million expansion of Zvartnots International Airport, which handles 57% of international arrivals, and over $100 million allocated to regional tourism infrastructure. The government aims to reach 3 million annual visitors by 2030.

Sports are also playing a key role in promoting the destination. From September 10 to 13, the country will host the debut of the “Tour of Armenia,” a 587 km stage race included in the UCI Europe Tour. Organized by the government and the Armenian Cycling Federation, the race will traverse the Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, and Aragatsotn regions before concluding in Yerevan.
