Armenia to acquire Czech-made L-39 Skyfox aircraft

Armenia is set to acquire L-39 Skyfox advanced trainer and light combat aircraft from the Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody. Defense Minister Suren Papikyan confirmed the acquisition following a visit to the company's facilities in the Czech Republic, stating that the aircraft will soon be operational in Armenian airspace.

The L-39 Skyfox, formerly known as the L-39NG, is a new-generation subsonic jet designed for pilot training, light combat, air patrol, and reconnaissance missions. It is equipped with a Williams International FJ44-4M engine, capable of speeds up to 907 km/h and a flight endurance of approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. The aircraft features modern avionics and five external hardpoints for weapons, including gun pods and rocket launchers.

While the exact number of aircraft, contract value, and delivery schedule have not been officially disclosed, previous reports indicated the production of four units for an undisclosed customer. This acquisition is expected to modernize Armenia’s existing military aviation fleet, which currently operates the older L-39 Albatros model.
