Azerbaijani soldier detained after shooting Armenian mother in Shaki

An Azerbaijani serviceman, identified as Nasimi Musayev, has been detained in Armenia following a violent confrontation in the village of Shaki, Syunik Province. On October 1, Musayev reportedly entered a private residence after breaking a lock, where he encountered a family and held two children at gunpoint.

During the incident, Musayev opened fire on 39-year-old Ani Avetisyan as she attempted to protect her children. The shooting resulted in Avetisyan losing three fingers on her left hand and sustaining a wound to her thigh. Her 15-year-old son also suffered a fractured wrist during a struggle to defend the family. Avetisyan is currently in stable condition at a medical center in Yerevan.

Armenian authorities noted that they had received a warning from Azerbaijan’s State Security Service on September 29 regarding a missing serviceman who may have crossed the border. Musayev was apprehended by police on the same street where the shooting occurred. An Armenian court has ordered his two-month pre-trial detention. He faces multiple charges, including illegal border crossing, illegal possession of a firearm, and inflicting serious bodily harm.
