Armenian Foreign Minister addresses detainees and EAEU obligations
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed two significant diplomatic challenges during recent statements. Regarding the detention of 19 Armenians in Azerbaijan, including former Artsakh officials, Mirzoyan informed the National Assembly that efforts to secure their release through third-party countries have been unsuccessful. He noted that Azerbaijani authorities have rejected external interference, stating that the path forward must rely on direct dialogue with Baku.
Separately, Mirzoyan defended Armenia’s standing within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Following reports questioning Armenia’s compliance, he asserted that the country has fulfilled its obligations in good faith. He rejected suggestions of suspension or removal, clarifying that Armenia has not violated EAEU agreements and will not compromise its sovereignty or independence in negotiations with union partners.
