Armenian opposition forces see significant vote increase in 2026 elections

Reports regarding the 2026 parliamentary elections in Armenia suggest that the ruling Civil Contract Party faces significant challenges to its hold on power. Despite the government's use of administrative and financial resources—including targeted increases in pensions and benefits—to influence the electorate, opposition forces have seen substantial growth.

According to Narek Karapetyan, leader of the ‘Strong Armenia’ faction in the National Assembly, the four main opposition groups increased their vote share by 80 percent compared to 2021, effectively doubling their support. Analysts suggest this trend indicates that the state's capacity to control the electoral process through administrative levers has reached its limit, as public resistance continues to rise.
