Armenian police detain several people for illegal cannabis possession

On the night of July 6, police units in Yerevan arrested multiple individuals on suspicion of illegally possessing and using cannabis. A 45‑year‑old man on Rubinyan Street was found with a package containing a cannabis‑type substance that he said he bought for $30 via a Telegram channel for personal use. Later, a 65‑year‑old resident of Abovyan was seized on Tamancini Street with a similar package and a cannabis‑based concentrate. In the same day, a 30‑year‑old driver of a Nissan on the Yerevan‑Sevan‑Ijivan highway and a 28‑year‑old passenger of a Mercedes were detained after authorities found cannabis‑containing material and concentrate in their vehicle. Both younger suspects reported that they cultivated the plants themselves and prepared the drug for personal consumption. All cases have been transferred to the community police’s investigative department.
