Armidale Vinnies Community Sleepout to raise homelessness awareness

The 2026 Vinnies Community Sleepout is scheduled for Friday, August 28, in Armidale. Approximately 20 to 25 participants are expected to sleep on cardboard at the UNE Sport Gymnasium to raise funds and awareness for regional homelessness.

Event coordinator Scott Martin noted that approximately $33,000 has already been raised, bringing the event close to its financial target. The proceeds will remain in Armidale to support the Start Fresh Community Connections Program through Freeman House, which assists individuals rebuilding their lives after drug and alcohol dependency treatment.

The evening program begins at 5:00 pm and includes guest speakers discussing homelessness, addiction, and recovery, as well as trivia, a warm meal, and a raffle. Members of the public are invited to attend the formalities starting at 6:30 pm.
