Armindo Araújo named 2025 National Rally Champion by TAD
The Sports Arbitration Tribunal (TAD) has ruled that Portuguese driver Armindo Araújo is the 2025 National Rally Champion. The decision follows a legal challenge against the Portuguese Federation of Automobilism and Karting (FPAK), which had previously awarded the national title to Spanish driver Dani Sordo.
In the 2025 Portuguese Rally Championship, Araújo finished third in the overall standings, behind Sordo and British driver Kris Meeke. While Sordo won on the road, Araújo was the highest-ranking Portuguese driver. The dispute centered on whether the national title should be awarded to the top-performing local driver or the overall winner, regardless of nationality.
The TAD concluded that the FPAK did not have the authority to unilaterally bypass existing regulations. Araújo expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating it restores “sporting truth” and clarifies that while foreign drivers are welcome to compete, the national championship title represents the country.
