Armored car exploded during armed attack in Maranhão

An armed group attacked and exploded an armored vehicle on the BR-135 highway near the Santa Rosa settlement in Capinzal do Norte, Maranhão, on Thursday afternoon. The suspects, described as heavily armed, opened fire before the explosion, with some bullets hitting nearby residences.

No injuries have been reported following the incident. The criminals fled the scene in two vehicles, one of which was later found burned on a local road. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been intentionally set on fire to destroy evidence and hinder identification.

While initial police reports suggested the armored car was not transporting money, authorities are still investigating whether any funds were present or stolen. Military Police, criminal forensics, and specialized Civil Police units are working to identify the group and track the vehicles used in the escape.
