ARMSX3 Emulator Brings PlayStation 3 to Android Devices

The ARMSX3 project, a successor to ARMSX2, has released an experimental PlayStation 3 emulator for Android. Built on the PC emulator RPCS3 and incorporating ARM‑specific optimizations, the software aims to run PS3 titles on modern smartphones.

Early testing shows limited performance: on a device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the game Skate 3 launched at 20‑30 FPS, while titles such as Catherine and 3D Dot Game Heroes ran at roughly 22 FPS and 15 FPS respectively. The emulator requires the official PS3 firmware from Sony and a user‑provided game library. Developers warn that many games may crash, display graphical glitches, or run below playable frame rates, and the current build is intended for proof‑of‑concept use only.

ARMSX3 is distributed for free via its GitHub repository, with installation steps mirroring earlier ARMSX versions. The team plans to continue refining compatibility and stability as Android hardware evolves.
