Armunia council demands León update traffic lights for new regulations
The Armunia Neighborhood Council has demanded that the León City Council update the traffic light programming at the Michaisa roundabout to comply with new national regulations. The request follows Royal Decree 518/2026, which modifies the General Traffic Regulations and takes effect on October 1.
The new law mandates that at pedestrian crossings regulated by traffic lights, an intermittent amber light for vehicles cannot coincide with a steady green light for pedestrians; instead, it must be preceded by a steady red light phase for drivers to prevent confusion regarding priority.
The council argues that the current Michaisa system, which uses pedestrian push-buttons, does not meet these standards. Furthermore, the local entity is calling for a technical study of the area, a request that has been pending for nearly two years and has previously required intervention from the Ombudsman of Castilla y León due to municipal delays.
