Arén shepherd dies after lightning strike in Sierra de Sis

A 54-year-old shepherd from the La Ribagorza region died on Friday after being struck by lightning while herding animals in the Sierra de Sis area, located in the municipality of Arén, Huesca.

The Civil Guard received the alert around 2:00 PM. Emergency responders, including the GREIM mountain rescue group from Benasque, an aerial unit, and medical personnel, were deployed to the site. Upon arrival, they found the individual showing signs incompatible with life. The body was evacuated by helicopter to Benasque and subsequently transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Zaragoza.

The Judicial Police Territorial Team of the Civil Guard in Barbastro is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
