Arnaldo Otegi outlines EH Bildu priorities for Navarra and Basque autonomy

Arnaldo Otegi, leader of the EH Bildu coalition, has outlined the party's strategic priorities for the upcoming political cycle. During a meeting in Pamplona, Otegi emphasized the goal of revalidating the 'progressive bloc' for the 2027 elections. A key objective is to renew governability agreements with the Socialist Party of Navarra (PSN) and its leader, María Chivite, to prevent the right-wing UPN from gaining control of the regional executive.

Otegi also signaled a shift toward political pragmatism regarding Basque self-government. He advocated for a 'gradual and agreed' process to deepen autonomy, moving away from unilateralism in favor of bilateral negotiations with the Spanish State. This approach involves seeking a new status or a renewal of the Gernika Statute through agreements with various Basque political forces, including the PNV and PSE-EE, to expand decision-making capacities on matters affecting citizens.
